Course: Many are Called but Few are Chosen

This course allows you to practice using first century methods of searching the Scriptures. Dr. Anne Davis used these methods to explore the deeper meaning in Yeshua’s words, “Many are called but few are chosen.” You will join Dr. Anne as she takes an exciting journey through the Hebrew Scriptures that helped her uncover this mystery. Then you will return to the New Testament with a new understanding that will likely have a powerful impact on your life.

“I was totally unprepared for what I found,” Dr. Davis explains. “I had been taught that the ‘many’ are Jews who are called to believe in Yeshua. But only those who believe will be ‘chosen,’ that is, saved. That never made much sense, she adds. But what she did find in her search was completely different from anything she had expected. So we will approach this study wanting to know what the first century listeners would have heard. Yeshua was talking to Jews who knew the Hebrew Scriptures intimately (the New Testament had not yet been written), and who knew from the Holy Writings that they were God’s “chosen people.”

This is not a course for beginners. It will be helpful if you have already taken the course, "Searching the Scriptures: Patterns I." The goal of the course is to show you how Dr. Anne Davis searches the Scriptures to answer difficult questions. In this case, what do the Hebrew Scriptures tell us about who is "called" and who is "chosen?" And what are the rewareds and consequences? After all, those who heard the words of Jesus did not have a New Testament. The Hebrew Scriptures were their Holy Writings.
